A Taste of Ecuador
October 29, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$45.00With winter just around the corner do you wish you too could be flying south? Turn your tastebuds into snowbirds instead with a trip to South America in this introduction to Ecuadorian cuisine. Ecuador straddles the equator and is home to diverse landscapes from thick jungles to Andean highlands, and fertile coasts known for their fresh seafood. In this hands on class with Beth Jones and Jorge Campoverde, executive and sous chefs of the U of M’s Campus Club, you’ll explore the foods of coastal Ecuador and try your hand at traditional banana leaf tamales using two staples of this cuisine- plantains and fresh fish!
Class menu will include:
- Bollos de Pescado (Banana Leaf Tamales with Peanut-Plantain Masa and Fresh Tuna)
- Annatto Rice
- Encelbollado (Traditional Ecuadorian Style Salad)
The class will feature sustainably caught wild tuna from our friends Sitka Salmon Shares, a Midwest- and Alaska-based Community Supported Fishery (similar to the CSA model for veggies). Class participants will receive a coupon for $25 off a share with Sitka Salmon Shares.
