Amalia’s Guatemalan Kitchen: Mayan Stews

Join us for a special class with award-winning cookbook author and chef, Amalia Moreno-Damgaard. A Guatemala native, Amalia has been passionate about food and cooking since she was very young. She credits her maternal grandmother for her inspiration and love of fresh ingredients and artisan cuisine. Mayan cookery is the backbone and the ancient foundation upon which Guatemalan cuisine is built. Amalia travels regularly to her homeland to stay connected to her roots and continue to rediscover her culture.

During this interactive demonstration-style class, Amalia will present about the history and traditions of her cuisine and prepare two of her favorite Mayan dishes from her best selling book, Amalia’s Guatemalan Kitchen. Class takes place in our classroom and includes a delicious dinner along with a wine pairing, conversation, and opportunity to purchase the book.

Class menu will include:

• Pepián Negro -Spicy Pork Vegetable Stew
• Jocón – Chicken, Tomatillo, and Cilantro stew,
• Traditional Mayan Side Dishes
