Discover: Beyond Soul Food

In celebration of Black History Month, join us for a virtual soulful cooking class led by TGA’s Culinary Education Manager, Chef Lachelle Cunningham. Chef Lachelle will guide you through the plant-based foundations of soul food and reveal some of the healing properties of the common herbs and spices used to build flavors of this distinctly American cuisine. Hear about how this cuisine and its evolution has impacted Lachelle’s personal food story and then follow along as she demonstrates one of her delicious recipes, a Vegan Po’Boy with Spicy Cabbage Slaw. You’ll leave this class with a deeper understanding of the foundations of soul food and some great recipes you’ll be able to adapt to suit your palate and the seasons.
Participants will receive the recipes, a recommended shopping list, and instructions on how to access the class via Zoom on Friday, February 12th. Class runs live on Tuesday, February 16th from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. CST and is free with a suggested donation of $10 which you can make at checkout. A recording of the class will be sent to all registrants on February 17th.
