Discover: Single Source Olive Oil

Olive oil has been produced and consumed for millennia, with olive cultivation spreading to countries all around the Mediterranean and beyond. Olive trees and olive oil show up throughout history with importance for religious, cultural, medicinal, and culinary applications. With such a long history, the story and the truth about olive oil would presumably be well known, but that’s far from the truth. Questions and misconceptions abound, with consumers today often confused about what to buy and how best to use it. Americans consume far less olive oil per capita than other nations but the numbers are rising and with that rise can come increased opportunity for confusion, and even misleading information.

Dave Dellanave, of Dellanave Imports, is making it his mission to bring in high quality, single source olive oil and to educate consumers about the olive oil industry and production. In this class Dave will bust the myths, lay out the facts, and help you choose and enjoy the best olive oil for your kitchen. He’ll cover traditional and modern methods of oil production, the differences between types of oil, how to read a label, and how to ensure what you’re buying is what you think it is. You’ll learn how to cook with olive oil for best results and have a chance to taste a variety of oils, including Dave’s favorite oil imported from a single producer in Umbria, Italy. Olive oil tasting will be accompanied by breads and light snacks along with a local brew or glass of wine.
