The word chaat means “to lick,” and these iconic Indian street food snacks are utterly lickable! There are thousand of chaats available throughout India; their tangy, sweet, sour, and spicy flavor profiles are a beloved staple in every corner of the country. This class, led by professional chef, avid traveler, and cookbook author Jody Eddy, will explore what makes a chaat a chaat, how these tempting small-bite delicacies can form a tapas-like menu for a fun and unexpected crowd-pleasing get together, and how to achieve the perfect chaat alchemy of textures, colors, aromas, and flavors.
Class menu will include recipes like:
- Bhel Puri: A savory puffed rice snack with red onions, green chiles, tomatoes, tangy tamarind chutney, and crunchy papdi
- Ram Ladoo: Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside lentil fritters with shaved radishes and spicy mint-cilantro chutney
- Aloo Chaat: Roasted potatoes with pomegranate seeds, cooling yogurt raita, mango chutney, and crispy chickpea noodles
- Gajar Ka Halwa: A sweet, milk-based pudding comprised of shaved carrots, cardamom, saffron, and toasted cashews
