Starting a small business is a challenging endeavor, even more so when you’re trying to start a packaged food business. Licensing and regulations, business plans, value propositions, product development – figuring out what to do and where to start can be overwhelming. We are here to help with our two food business-focused workshops designed to give participants a strong foundation as they begin their journey into the world of food business entrepreneurship. Whether you are still in the ideation phase or if you have already started but now find yourself overwhelmed and unsure of where to go, this series of workshops is for you. Defining your Value Proposition
Wednesday, May 26th, 10am – 12:30pm
Knowing your why is the foundation to any successful business. This workshop will help you find your why, and will get you asking the right questions; not can you make this product, but should you? Through virtual interactive group discussion, real-world examples, and focused writing prompts you will create and define your unique value proposition. You’ll leave this workshop with the confidence to pitch your business, develop your product, and know your why.

Creating a One-Page Business Plan & Licensing 101
Wednesday, June 9th, 10am – 12:30pm
You’ve got your why, now where do you go from there? Building your business starts with a clear blueprint. Knowing who you are and where you want to go will help you stay on course as you navigate the next steps. In this workshop, we’ll take the fear out of business plan writing by helping you to create a one-page plan designed to be a tool that you’ll actually use and come back to as you grow. The second part of this two-part workshop dives into the often complex world of food business licensing and regulation in Minnesota. We’ll break it down, clear the muddy waters, and tell you what you need for your own unique business. Be prepared with your questions because the workshop ends with an invaluable Q&A with experts from TGA, AURI, and local shared-use kitchens.
